Snowman Cookie Jars!

Hi everyone!

 Today I wanted to share with you my new Snowman Cookie Jars that I make. These darling cookie jars are so cute, and hold a large amount of cookies. The top of his hat comes off to get to the cookies. It measures 21" in diameter and 10" Tall. The dimension of the opening is a little over 4". It's large enough to put two hands in it at the same time. This will hold lots of cookies! Plus it looks so cute sitting on a counter at Christmas time. It's one of my favorites! These make really nice Christmas gifts, and are great for collectors as well, and (I happen to collect anything related to Snowmen). Ssshhh don't tell my hubby! ;)

I only have 1 available right now, but I have a whole bunch in my art room that I get to start working on tomorrow!

Hello everyone!

It's a wet cloudy day here in Washington, and what am I doing? Staying inside and working! Lol, but I love what I do so it really isn't work, to me! I wanted to let you all know that I am finally back to making and painting ceramics again! And boy am I excited about that! It's been a whole year of home renovations and moving (yuck!) and I'm plum wore out from all the work.

Ordering, Custom Ordering, Etsy & Catching Up

Hi everyone! Just wanted to touch base with you to let you all know where I'm at with making the Primitive Ceramic Canisters and the other pieces.

I have been working hard at getting sets made. I finally have 3 sets made, and have begun to paint them. I need several painted pieces to be able to fire the kiln, or it's a waste of electricity. As soon as I have fired the first load I will be posting here to let you know when they will be available in advance.

Primitive Ceramic Salt & Pepper Shaker

Hi everyone! Since I posted last I've been really busy in my studio making the Primitive Kitchen Canisters, and more! It's quit the process from start to finish, (which I already knew), but is so worth it in the long run. 

If you know me at all, or have been following me for a while, you know that my favorite paints are acrylics. But, since I started making ceramics several years ago, I've really wanted to paint them using ceramic paints & glazes because when I paint them with the acrylics it takes too long and there are so many steps to take.  I really want to cut down on the time it takes to make them. 

So I made a Salt Shaker painted in ceramic paints and glazes and wanted to show you some photos of what they look like painted in both types of paints, acrylic & ceramic paints and glazes. 

These were painted in acrylic paints on the outside and then stained. Then sealed with a matte sealer. 

They have clear ceramic glaze on the inside so their food safe.

   

This one was painted with the ceramic paints, and a mocha crackle glaze on the outside. (You can't see the mocha crackle glaze to well in the photo, so I posted a close up photo below.) The inside has clear ceramic glaze so they're food safe.

 Here I'm showing you a close up photo so that you can see the crackle glaze. 

This close up shows what the tops look like. The photo shows them being lighter than they actually are. I'd say they are actually a shade darker than the photo, and the crackle can be well seen from a distance. 

I will be shading around the tops and bottoms with another layer because I don't like how this one looks for as far as shading goes.

My New Pottery Studio!

Hi everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter! 

I've been exremely busy around here!
A couple weeks ago I had a garage sale and I was able to get rid of 95% of the things that were occupying my shelving, that I needed to use for my pottery.
 My husband and I cleaned the garage and I'm all organized and I've already begun making my pottery!  

Here's some photos of my new pottery studio.
It's nothing fancy, but at least I have a clean organized space to work. 

 As you can see from the photo above, I've been pouring, trimming and cleaning pottery to get them ready for the kiln.
I will be firing my first load this week, and I'm pretty excited!

 Today I'm testing & experimenting with colors. 

I've been doing a lot of thinking about the pottery I'm going to be making and will have some surprises in store!

My First Set of Fired Ceramics

Hello everyone, how are you all? I did some blog hopping the other night and many of you are creating some very wonderful items, and are very busy! Don't a just love crafting! It's so much fun! I know I promised a photo of my ceramics a couple days ago, and I forgot to post it. For those of you that didn't know, I fired my first set of ceramics last weekend, and I'm so excited that everything turned out great, and that I didn't blow up our house! lol I'm so looking forward to painting these and making more. Here's the photo of my new Bisque! It includes 3 Grease Pots, 2 Butter Churns, 1 Utensil Holder, 2 Salt & Pepper Sets, and 2 Spoon Rests.

Now on to more exciting news! I received a phone call this week from a lovely lady in Pennsylvania who had seen some of my work from a friend of hers, and she has asked me to make her a set of dishes (service for 6) and the design she would like me to paint on them is Birdhouses. She will be giving this set to a friend for Christmas. It was a big surprise, and I'm very excited, and can't wait to get busy making the ceramics, and painting them. But first I have to finish the custom orders in front of hers.
I'm going to be adding more products to our website this weekend. I hope you'll stop by for a visit. The weather here hasn't been too bad here (mid 70's- mid 80's), compared to whats going on back east. I feel for all of you that are having to put up with hot temperatures. I hope you have air conditioners!

My First Set of Ceramics & Tons of New Products!

I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July! We really didn't do too much as my husband had to work, so I did too. I poured my first set of ceramics over the weekend. It was trial and error learning this. It took me three pours to get my first set of Salt & Pepper Shakers. After that everything else went very well for my first pour! My husband even got involved and poured something. He loves making things, it doesn't matter what kind of craft it is, he's in. You'd never know by looking at him that he loves crafts.  Here's a couple photos. The first photo is my husband pouring a Butter Churn. The next one is the greenware with a little cleanup done to them. There is still some fine tuning to be done to all the pieces, and then of course painting and glazing them. What we poured was set of Salt & Pepper Shakers, Butter Churn, Spoon Rest, 2 Grease Pots, and a Utensil Holder.

Over the weekend, I added alot of new product to the website. They include Berkshire Textiles, Braided Rugs, and Braided Baskets by Victorian Heart Co. The colors are beautiful as you can see in this Braided Basket Set. I fired my first Ceramic & New Products

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend what ever your activities were! Over the weekend, I did two things. First I added many new items to the website; Mason Jar Wax Warmers, Primitive Paper Towel Holder hand painted by me, and some other miscellaneous items. I also made a trip to a Ceramic shop to gather up supplies that I need to be able to make my own Ceramics. (I still need to purchase some molds). Sunday I was finally able to play with my Kiln for the first time, and it was so much fun! I fired my first Ceramic. I had an Oil Decanter that was already made and glazed on the inside (by someone else). While I was at the Ceramic shop I picked up a crackle glaze to play with, because most of my paintings are done in a crackle manner, and I wanted to see the outcome of this particular medium. This glaze is already pigmented as a Mocha and has the crackle medium already in it. All I had to do was brush it on my Oil Decanter, wait for it to dry and then fire it. Well the firing didn't go as planned because my Kiln doesn't have a temperature gauge and we didn't have any idea as to what the temperature was in there. We definitely need to purchase a Pyrometer. So basically it was just a test to see how things worked. Here's a couple of photos of my first piece. I just love how it looks. The second photo really shows the crackled surface.

I purchased a Kiln!

last week. When I started painting Ceramics months ago, I never thought I'd be purchasing a Kiln of my own. I've been purchasing all the ceramics that I paint from a very nice lady in Oklahoma. She does beautiful work! I've been painting so many ceramics, that my husband and I decided it was time to purchase our own kiln. I started looking for a Kiln  a week ago, and I wasn't planning on finding one so soon, but I did. I purchased the Kiln from a lady in my hometown. She took very good care of it, it's in great condition, and it was a great deal! 
I've been spending my evenings on the Internet learning everything I can about this craft. It's been really interesting. I'm going to be making all the ceramics I've painted so far, with some additional products. The additional products will be functional products, products that you can use in your kitchen. I will be adding these new items when I'm not stacked up on painting orders. This week I worked on a set of Salt & Pepper Shakers, a new Primitive Paper Towel Holder (that will be added to my website really soon), and have started a set of Primitive Canisters, all for one customer. I've been really busy since April with tons of orders for my hand painted items.
